Gillingham Ladies took a somewhat fortunate point from high flying Portsmouth at Moneyfields on Sunday afternoon.
It continues their run of good form with one defeat in their last six games.
The Ladies were rewarded for showing great character and never say die attitude to score a late leveller through substitute Natalie Crinean, after Charley Wilson gave Pompey the lead.
The start to the game was quite even with both teams trying to get a foothold in the game.
Portsmouth created the first of several first half chances in the 3rd minute when a long range shot from Gemma Tewkesbury was comfortably saved by Sarah Quantrill.
They continued to press and but for a brilliant save from Sarah Quantrill and the aid of the crossbar they would have taken the lead.
They did take a deserved lead on 18 minutes albeit from a dubious goal. A corner from the right was headed goal wards by Charley Wilson; a Pompey forward was clearly in an offside position stood in front of Sarah Quantrill but the goal stood.
Gillingham showed little endeavour in the first half and only really had two long range efforts to show from Laura East and Danni Farmer.
Pompey continued to press up to half time but found Sarah Quantrill in outstanding form and certainly justifying her England call up from earlier in the week.
In the second half the Gills started to take the game to Portsmouth without creating many clear cut chances.
Pompey again continued to create and hit the bar through Gemma Tewkesbury and several efforts were brilliantly saved by Sarah Quantrill. The hosts also missed a penalty in the 65th minute when Danielle Carlton committed a foul in the area.
After the introduction of Natalie Crinean for the last 20 minutes the game started to turn.
Leah Jones had a shot well saved and further efforts from Danni farmer went close.
In the 88th minute Gillingham got a last gasp equaliser after a great cross from Leah Jones was brilliantly headed in from Natalie Crinean.
Overall it was a great point for the Gills with Sarah Quantrill in brilliant form in the Gills goal.
